8 Strategic Ways to Market Your Fitness Blog

You have an important message to share with the world and what better way than to blog about it? Writing and maintaining a successful blog is one thing. Actually having people read your blog and stay loyal to you and your message is another thing.

Why you need a fitness blog

As the expert in the fitness and exercise world, you probably get questions all the time from people in your life and in your job. Writing a fitness blog can help you reach more people to teach them about health and fitness and make money doing it. Not only can you attract more clients for your services and fitness business, you can make passive income from a search engine optimized (SEO) blog online.

Why you need to market your fitness blog

There are lots of voices on the internet right now talking about health, fitness, and exercise. You need to make sure your voice is also heard by getting the word out about your blog. That's where marketing comes in.

How to create an SEO friendly fitness blog

SEO is search engine optimization. By making your blog articles, or posts, on your website SEO friendly, there is a greater likelihood that your blog will get more traffic. More traffic means more people coming to your website and purchasing your digital goods, your ebooks, your courses, or signing up to work with you for 1:1 coaching. It can also drive more views on your YouTube videos. More traffic also means more advertising revenue, which means you earn more passive income, long after you wrote the article!

There are several ways you can optimize your blog article for search. There are several fellow health professionals that specialize in this area that can help you. Here are some of my favorites because they are effective:

8 Strategies to market your fitness blog

Here are several surefire strategies to market your blog so you can build a devoted and engaged audience.

1. Provide Quality Content: “This may not be the ‘sexiest’ answer but many times people overlook the most basic element of blog writing, which is appealing to the audience’s desire to learn more. Most readers prefer something they can benefit from reading, takes less than 60 seconds to read, and appeals to what is “hot” right now,” informs Matt Wiencek, owner/founder of Fitness Marketing Solutions, providing expert website, social media, and email marketing.

2. Make Your Blog Title SEO Friendly: “Take 5-10 minutes and do a bit of keyword research before you create your title and write the blog. For example, if your blog is about clay masks and you research and see that ‘clay masks’ has a search volume of 880 per month and then you see that ‘facial mask’ has a search volume of 4400 per month, you would use ‘clay facial mask’ as a keyword in your description and in your content. You have quadrupled the search volume for your keyword,” instructs Maria Calanchini, expert internet marketing consultant and co-owner of Face Yoga Method.

3. Market To Your Target Audience: “Make sure you’re marketing your blog in a place where your target audience is, not just where you want them to be. For the Connect2 blog, our target audience is people in the PR and marketing profession. The approach is specific to business advice so we have little appeal to consumers. That’s why we focus promotions on PR news sites, LinkedIn groups focused on PR, and twitter,” explains Richard Williams, president/founder of Connect2 Communications, an award-winning technology public relations firm.

4. Connect With Other Influencers: Williams advises to “look for ways to include other influencers content in your blog. This will help push the content further across social networks as you’re bringing more people with more connections into the mix. Also, look for sites that have reciprocal link programs and check regularly to make sure the places you link your blog to link back to you.” This will drive more traffic to your site.

5. Be A Guest Blogger: In addition to having people write for you, you can write for them to cross promote. Wiencek endorses “being a guest writer on someone else’s blog in a similar field to get a lot of traffic to your own blog. More often than not, this is mutually beneficial to both parties. It’s a great way to get traffic to one’s blog and also helps with the SEO rankings for one’s website/blog page.”

6. Capture Your Audiences Attention: Calanchini recommends to “take an extra five minutes to come up with a curiosity inducing headline. For example, if your blog is about clay masks, instead of naming the blog – ‘How to make a great clay facial mask at home,’ name it: ‘The top two secret ingredients you must have to make an amazing at home clay facial mask.’ Which title do you think will get more clicks?”

7. Use Social Media: Calanchini, Wiencek, and Williams all recommend using social media to promote one’s blog. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube are the top promotional choices. Williams reinforces carefully choosing which social media site will work with your target audience. Calanchini notifies to “not put all your eggs in one basket” and have at least two platforms. Wiencek reminds us to be consistent with how often you post on the social media platform.

8. Make It Easy! Wiencek adds that the consumer wants to get from Point A to Point B quickly and efficiently. “Make things as easy as possible on the consumer by providing a direct link to the blog page. This will help with the exposure one’s blog receives and will hopefully lead to the blogger getting the results that he/she would like to achieve.”

Remember: You do not have to do everything. Calanchini concludes, “one marketing outlet that is well executed is worth far more than the idea of 20 other marketing strategies that are never executed.” So stay focused and write that award-winning blog!
