GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Exercise Physiologist primary role is to provide supervision and leadership for cardiovascular and muscular endurance training for patients with cardiovascular disease. This person may provide coverage in the stress testing department performing CPET, Treadmills and Bike Stress Test.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science or related field

• Experience in exercise program planning, supervision, and risk factor modification counseling with cardiovascular rehabilitation patients.

• Exercise prescriptions, program planning and development

• Current AHA BLS certificate

• Current AHA ACLS certificate

• Certification with American College of Sports Medicine preferred

• Master’s degree in exercise science or related field preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads exercise classes for the Phase II/Phase III Cardiac Rehab, Ornish programs; ensures safe use of exercise equipment and body mechanics and develops exercise prescription based on stress test results.

• Educates patients on cardiovascular disease risk factors.

• Monitors patient heart rhythms and in conjunction with RN, identifies abnormal telemetry rhythms.

• In conjunction with RN updates and maintains the Individualized Treatment Plan as well as provides progress reports to the referring physician(s).

• Monitors blood sugars pre and post exercise for patients with diabetes type 1 and type 2.

• Review patient medications, updates in electronic record, triages physical symptoms.

• Establishes home exercise program, and reinforces risk factor modification strategies.

• Assures cleanliness and proper functioning of all exercise equipment

• Assists RN with emergencies as per protocols

• Participates in referral and enrollment process/department policy.

• Other duties and projects as assigned in Cardiac Rehab and Stress Test department.
