This is an 0.92% FTE position, August-June.

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, issue, maintain, clean, secure, order, and inventory a variety of kinesiology and athletic equipment and apparel.  Maintain assigned kinesiology areas, locker rooms, and facilities to clean and sanitary condition; set up and take down athletic venues for classes, athletic events, and community usage.  Maintain a safe and clean environment for locker rooms, facilities, and outside athletic venues.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: 
Maintain Men's and Women's Locker rooms, Kinesiology and Athletic areas.  Issue lockers, towel service, and monitor a safe and secure dressing area.  Assure student health and safety by performing necessary custodial work; including sweeping, mopping, dusting and cleaning/ sanitizing restroom and shower areas.  Serve as point-person for Automated External Defibrillator (AED), first aid storage and emergency plan.

Assess, evaluate and report any safety concerns to Athletic Director of all playing fields, courts and venues to prevent potential injury and limit the risk to Solano Community College District.

Clean, order, inspect, mark, issue, store, maintain, repair, and inventory a variety of athletic and kinesiology education equipment, and apparel, including exercise machines, equipment and surfaces.

Sort, launder and mend apparel, uniforms and towels.  Launder game uniforms and practice gear and redistribute prior to practices and contests.

Maintain policy and procedures for locker usage, lock combination data base, issue lockers and locker vacancies per semester.

Assist Athletic Director in setting up and taking down athletic facilities and venues for Kinesiology classes, and athletic events, including use and removal of swimming pool covers.  Game event requirements may include but are not limited to: court, field, or stadium; announcing, staffing concessions, set up of shade canopies, set up and operation of ticket booth, PA or sound system, and scoreboard, crowd control, and ADA support for visitors/guests. Provide home and visiting team sidelines/dugout with drinking water, and injury ice. Provide water for Athletic classes.

May assist coaches with brief game updates for social media.

Operate a computer to maintain inventories; track purchases, receive inventory, lock combinations, athletic van usage / mileage and locker assignments.

Assist Athletic Director in tracking and monitoring District Van Pool for Athletics; by assigning vans, track mileage, prepare usage reports, inspect vans after use for potential hazards, and fill gas upon return of vehicles.  Communicate with the County transportation department on maintenance protocols, and return vans to County transportation location. Report van operational concerns to Athletic Director for maintenance and repairs.  Communicate with coaches on van operation and procedures. Utilize a rotational system for consistent usage of vans. Ensure only authorize drivers use Athletic Vans for official use.

Drive athletic teams when needed.

Assist in receiving bids and ordering Kinesiology and athletic apparel and collecting apparel post-season.  Track and report lost or non-returned items to the manager.

Unlock and secure entrances to Kinesiology and Athletic facilities for use.  Monitor authorized use of facilities in compliance with the Weekly Facilities Memo.  Report unauthorized use to Campus Police.

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, assist with other Athletic and SCC sponsored events.  This may include supervising youth and monitoring locker rooms to minimize liability exposure to the college.

Properly use, park, and maintain inner campus club/golf cart.

This position may include assignments at off-campus sites, days, and evening, or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school including or supplemented by training in computerized record keeping, including inventory control, and one year experience in custodial or Physical Education/Kinesiology equipment repair work.  Knowledge in basic first aid, CPR and AED usage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents and communicate district and departmental policies and procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence using correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math skills, and calculate mileage for van use. Ability to perform units of weights and measures; and rates and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to work without close supervision, exercise initiative and good judgment to assure a safe, and secure environment for the students, and student athletes.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations. Ability to follow an emergency plan for issues with equipment or facilities that possibly occur.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: A valid California Driver's License and automobile insurance, First aid, AED and CPR certificates issued by an authorized agency.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is typically indoor and outdoor, with the possibility of exposure to rain, wind and dirty work conditions. Kinesiology/Athletic Assistant is an eleven month position: July-May and Aug-June.
