POSITION SUMMARY
MGS is seeking a Physical Therapist for Injury Management (PTIM) to join an elite Human Performance Program (HPP) supporting the 125th Special Tactics Squadron (STS) in Portland, OR. In this role, you will provide evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions as a licensed independent practitioner credentialed for direct care in a military human performance setting. Working alongside Special Operations Forces operators, you will have the opportunity to do meaningful clinical work that directly supports those who serve our nation's mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
- Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate musculoskeletal conditions, utilizing approved clinical privileges including ordering imaging studies, laboratory tests, basic pharmaceuticals, joint injections, and referrals to specialty providers.
- Develop rehabilitation protocols using screening information and assist in building the unit's rehabilitation system in accordance with local, state, and national laws, licensing, and insurance certification.
- Review physician referrals and patient records to determine treatment requirements; perform tests, measurements, and evaluations and record findings to develop or revise treatment and training programs.
- Serve as advisor to unit leadership on injury prevention, sports medicine, rehabilitation, administrative matters, equipment purchasing, and fiscal requests.
- Participate in HPP staff meetings to review care, identify opportunities for improvement, and attend and participate in meetings with medical providers as requested.
- Conduct equipment, product, and literature reviews to keep the HP program current; provide input on required databases and conduct peer record reviews as directed.
- Develop and distribute training materials as requested; assist unit leadership in developing and maintaining criteria-based job descriptions, performance standards, and clinical practice guidelines.
- Document all care and work in the Military's Electronic Health Record (AHLTA, GENESIS, etc.) as directed by unit leadership.
- Maintain continuing education compliance with Air Force National Guard requirements, attending conferences and courses with coordination at least 30 days in advance.
- Maintain physical proficiency to train alongside SOF, including hiking rough terrain, operating in austere environments, and lifting and manipulating loads up to 20 kilograms.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid state physical therapy license and board certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) or Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS).
- Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must obtain and maintain clinical practice privileges.
- Master's degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution (doctorate preferred).
- 5+ years of post-professional experience performing manual therapy in the sports medicine field with individual athletes and groups at the NCAA Division I, Olympic, professional, or Special Operations/AFSPECWAR level. Internship hours will not be considered professional experience.
- Experience performing manual therapy, trigger point dry needling, Graston Technique soft tissue mobilization, and functional taping.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctorate degree in physical therapy.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, or Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAWA).
- Credentials to utilize Bionex medical machines for lumbar, cervical, and torso stabilization.
- Previous experience working with the TRICARE medical system.
