JOB TITLE: Personal Trainer                                   
SUPERVISOR:  Wellness Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Health & Wellness                                                
FLSA STATUS: Part-time, Hourly                                            

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Wellness Coordinator, the Personal Trainer will carry out the tasks necessary for a safe and purposeful training session in the Wellness Center or other approved property. This person must be highly skilled in providing a safe environment for our members using the Wellness Center. This person must possess advanced knowledge of human anatomy, correct lifting form, proper use of machines, excellent communication skills, and the ability to design personalized workouts and exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for the orientation of members in an effective and safe manner.
  • Take required courses & certifications and maintain certifications.
  • Responsible for seeing that all participants follow the rules of the Wellness Center.
  • Responsible for helping participants by answering questions to the best of your ability and within your scope of practice. Relate to members on new or updated information regarding new exercise techniques, including free weights.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Responsible for having all required paperwork completed and filled out appropriately.
  • Properly fill out all necessary paperwork.
  • Educate members on health, fitness, and related issues.
  • Alert the Coordinator if any problems occur.
  • Check the trainer mailbox before each shift.
  • Ensure payment is made at the Membership Service Desk prior to appointment by requiring a receipt.
  • Attend all staff meetings and other YMCA events.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
  • Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • The ideal candidate will possess a YMCA of the USA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning Certification or a certification of a reputable organization that is recognized on a national level or an Associates degree in a related field.
  • Must possess the necessary skills to train members in wellness programs and the fitness equipment, meet and service members in a responsible and a friendly manner, and be knowledgeable of the policies, procedures and safety for the members using the equipment.
  • Must have background knowledge of required health and fitness guidelines to tailor personalized workout programs for all populations.
  • Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
  • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
  • Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Work in different temperature environments.

EFFECTS ON END RESULTS
This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness of the YMCA, as they are dealing directly with the public through program orientations and customer service. Good judgment and confidence in implementing program policies and effective communication with the members and general public must be exercised.
