Job Description and Requirements
Towson University seeks a Director for the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center is part of the College of Health Professions and is one of five health care and community outreach centers at the Institute for Well-Being. The Wellness Center provides fitness and wellness programs for employees and members of the community. We offer a full spectrum of programs for adults including fitness/gym memberships, group exercise classes, and personal training. Within that framework, we specialize in creating fitness opportunities for adults with chronic medical conditions, adults with developmental disabilities, and other special populations. We partner with the Department of Kinesiology faculty to facilitate applied research, teaching, and internship opportunities for students.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the Wellness Center including membership recruitment and retention, marketing to create a network of referral sources, community outreach, implementing and documenting quality evidence-based practices, developing new programs, evaluating existing programs, hiring and supervising employees, managing budgets and purchases, and integrating students into quality teaching and internship experiences throughout the Wellness Center. Candidates must be able to work a varied schedule including occasional weekend and early evening hours.
(1) Masters degree.
(2) Five years experience in fitness or fitness-related positions.
(3) Prior experience working with individuals with chronic medical conditions or special populations.
(4) Current CPR and First Aid certification at the time of hire.
(1) B.S. or M.S. degree in Exercise Science, Sport Management, or related field
(2) Current certifications through ACSM or NCSA
(3) Prior experience managing medical fitness or community fitness centers
(4) Prior college teaching experience
(5) Prior program development and evaluation experience
Salary: Competitive salary and full university benefits that include excellent health, life insurance, and retirement plans; tuition remission; and 22 days of annual leave, 14 holidays, personal and sick days. This position will start after May 1st, 2017. The position will remain open until filled. The position is contingent on funds being available at the time of hire.
