Job Description and Requirements
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Research Interventionist/Exercise Physiologist position in the School of Nursing.
The interventionist will be responsible for prescribing and delivering intervention for the NIH funded a randomized controlled trial that evaluates the efficacy of a telerehabilitation-assisted home exercise intervention in lung transplant recipients.
Under the direction of Co-PIs (Drs. Choi and DeVito Dabbs) and the project director, the interventionist will be responsible for:
1) traveling to participants' place of residence to set up and instruct participants on the use of the telerehabilitation platform system (VISYTER) 2) implementing individualized exercise programs based on exercise prescription and participant assessment
3) delivering in-person exercise instruction during the set-up home visit
4) delivering exercise training and coaching sessions via VISYTER system (Phase 1)
5) delivering telephone counseling sessions including behavioral coaching and exercise reinforcement to sustain self-management of exercise and physical activity (Phase 2)
The incumbent will work closely with the lead investigative team members to follow the study protocol, ensure patient safety (i.e., assessing safety issues in subject and reporting potentially adverse events immediately in accordance to the procedure listed in the data and safety monitoring plan), ensure treatment fidelity, participate in weekly project staff meetings and provide input into interpretation of study findings.
The interventionist is required to travel to participants homes (within 120 miles from the University of Pittsburgh) with another research staff member 2-3 times per month on average during working hours.
Minimum Related Experience Level Required
2-3 years experience
Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position
Masterâs degree in Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy or other health discipline with expertise in physical exercise.
Expertise in physical exercise and/or clinical experience in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation required.
Department is willing to consider significant relevant experience in lieu of degree requirement. Research experience in clinical or community setting is preferred. Experience with delivery and evaluation of behavioral exercise interventions, preferably in randomized controlled trials, is preferred.
For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background clearance. Prior to commencement of employment, completion of research integrity and other relevant CITI modules is required.
