Job Description and Requirements

Job Summary
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking student employees to act as personal trainers. Personal trainers are responsible for conducting personal training sessions with clients registered through the Intramural and Recreation Healthy U Fitness Personal Training program. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting Fit@Pitt fitness assessments
- Developing individualized exercise programs
- Enhancing clientsâ personal fitness goals
- Assisting, monitoring and instructing clients by ensuring safe and effective use of gym equipment and weight machines
- Motivating clients to achieve their fitness goals
- Providing equal and respectful treatment to all participants
- Acting as a first responder in case of any emergency

Job Requirements
- Preferred Education: Currently pursuing or completed bachelorâs degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science or other fitness-related fields. Currently pursuing masterâs degree in sports medicine, health and physical activity, physical therapy, other fitness-related fields.
- Preferred Certification: ACSM Personal Trainer certification or equivalent certification from a Nationally recognized organization (experience and/or coursework can substitute for certification)
- CPR/AED Certification
- Ability to maintain a routine weekly work schedule for an entire semester
- Ability to attend required in-services and trainings each semester
- Willingness to work weekends

Child Protection Clearances
The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Hourly Pay Rate $10.00
