Job Description and Requirements
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Operations Director, the Healthy Living Assistant is responsible Personal and Group Training, consultations, new program development and management of personal trainers. , the program assistant is responsible for assisting with development, organization, implementation and evaluation of health and wellness programs, ensuring that all operations in the Healthy Living department run smoothly. The Healthy Living Assistant is responsible for integrating YMCA USA wellness best practices in applicable programs and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and wellness programs.

Essential Strategic Functions:
o Assist with all operations of the Healthy Living Department and its programs. These may include facility and staff management, daily operations, group exercise scheduling, incentive programs, collaborations with other agencies, health education and screenings.
o Assist in developing, administering, achieving and evaluating the annual Healthy Living Department Operating Objectives.
o Monitors the achievement of these objectives through measurable outcomes, taking appropriate action to see they are met.
o Recruits, employs, evaluates and develops staff and volunteers while being fiscally responsible and within budget limitations.
o Assures that the Healthy Living Programs have well-planned member and volunteer recruitment and retention plans.
o Evaluates current programs and class participation to expand or discontinue classes based on customer satisfaction and member retention.
o Notifies field service technician of fitness equipment needs.
o Maintains an accurate system of records and reports.
o Wears Y uniform or nametag and appropriate attire.
Essential Tactical Functions:
o Greets members by name, introduces self to others and encourages socialization among members.
o Serves as member of the Healthy Living Cabinet providing input for the administration, promotion and operation of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh branch.
o Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
o Participates in training and abide by the policies of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh.
o Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe facility.
o Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the end userÃ¢s commitment and personal growth.
o Builds a culture of service delivery that is reflective of the Y mission and responsive to member issues and needs.
o Supports branch fundraising initiatives by actively contributing to, educating on, and raising projected goal for the annual Building Bridges Campaign.
o Assists in forming community partnerships to expand Y Without Walls concept.
o Local travel required and occasional long distance travel for training and special events.
o Abide by the onboarding processes and procedures as defined by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Human Resources team. This includes, but is not limited to the submission of all paperwork and criminal clearances to the satisfaction of the HR Team PRIOR to a staff member reporting to a site for work.
o Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include but are not limited to Dayforce HCM for review and approval of employee time sheets and timely submission of credit card statement coding and supporting documentation to Accounts Payable.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
o Excellent organizational and staff-management skills
o Ability to educate and motivate staff, members, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
o Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
o Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google and Social Media
o Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.
o This position prefers an undergraduate degree, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Health or related field.
o Two to four years experience in the area of Health and Wellness programming Management is preferred.
o The incumbent is required to maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED.
o Must have or obtain YMCA Team Leader Certification within 3 years.
o Must have or obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles within 6 months.
o Must complete the on-line YMCA New Employee Orientation available on the YMCA Exchange.
Physical Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
