Job Description and Requirements
We have a full-time Fitness Manager position available at a continuing care retirement community in Charlotte, North Carolina. The exact weekly schedule is TBD.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work well with professionals in other health-related areas of the community to create a sense of well-being for the community residents as well as meet the position requirements outlined below.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Manager supervises and coordinates all activities of the fitness center including initiating and implementing programming, setting customer service standards, managing Quality Assurance program guidelines, working with members, developing or maintaining a group fitness program and other duties as assigned. The Manager reports to the Assistant Director.
Bachelors degree in a health-related field, Masters degree preferred
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
Three to five years of increasingly challenging experience in the field preferred; specific experience working with older adults required
Ability to teach basic balance and chair group fitness classes on land as well as water-based classes
Ability to safely and accurately prescribe exercise for older adults using ACSM guidelines
Candidate will have reliable transportation
Candidate may be required to successfully pass a drug screen, background check, and/or a TB skin test
Facilitates the development of facility programs, initiatives, goals and objectives
Maintains a positive, service-oriented relationship with client contact; establishes an ongoing positive and professional rapport with members
Demonstrates consistent attention to detail and organizational skill, manages competing demands
Coordinates and oversees all aspects of Fitness Center membership
Assesses health status of members through a health history questionnaire as well as through a senior fitness assessment
Oversees implementation of Quality Assurance program
Supervises Group Fitness Instructors and group exercise program
Teaches land and water-based group exercise classes onsite
Supervises the preventive maintenance and repair of exercise equipment; ensures facility cleanliness
Speaks effectively before groups of customers and/or employees of client organization
Writes clearly and informatively, varies writing style to meet audience needs
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge of Internet Explorer or other platforms for responsible use of the Web as a resource
Knowledge of and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Power Point and Publisher.
Once trained, the employee should be capable of accurately using NIFS payroll system
ACSM Health/Fitness Specialist Certification preferred
Other industry-related certifications (CPT, CSCS, etc) acknowledged
Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
Trained in Universal Precautions annually (provided by NIFS)
Reads and accurately interprets documents such as NIFS or client rules/policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Writes routine reports and correspondence effectively and precisely for the designated audience
Speaks effectively in English
