The Power Of Social Media

The Power Of Social Media

Take your business to the next level by communicating with your clients outside of the typical office or gym. Social media can bring many new opportunities to small business owners by building and sustaining your influence on your clients. Successful social media people have established themselves as experts in their fields by gaining many followers/fans and having the ability to instantly communicate powerful messages to the masses.

Need some statistics to show how influential social media can be?

Facebook has over 800 million active users worldwide.

Twitter has over 21 million active users in the United States alone.

LinkedIn has over 64 million users in North America alone.

So how does one embark on building a social media empire?

Here are 5 quick tips:

#1. Pick one to two social media platforms only and invest your time in them by participating frequently. Social media is so fast that if not engaged in often, one can get lost in the crowd. Most popular sites to consider: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, MySpace.

#2. Take time to set up your homepage and customize it. Make sure to include your photo and logo so people see who you are. The information you provide on your main page will be the first point of contact people have in getting to know you and what you offer.

#3. Interact with others. Establish yourself as an expert in one specific area and bring your passion to your posts/tweets/interactions. Passion will help people connect to you since they see the real you and they can establish a rapport. Remember: the term “social media” is derived from being social. Put yourself out there and start to talk to people.

#4. Get people to join you on your social media platform. If you are on Facebook, include a call-to-action by encouraging non-fans to “Like” your business page. If you are on Twitter, start to follow a few influential people with a lot of followers. Mention these people in your tweets and re-tweet their posts. Also make sure to send props on #FF (follow Friday) so they may re-tweet your #FF and their followers can follow you. If joining LinkedIn, start to send out introductions and network, network, network.

#5. Make sure to attach a widget from your social media platform to your website and email signature. A quick way for people to connect to you is simply by clicking on those icons that are easily available. Click here to follow me on Twitter:
