What attracted you to the field of fitness and exercise? I love helping people and seeing them realize how strong they are and what they are capable of doing. Fitness and exercise can help improve your life.
Your Job Title: Studio Manager, Certified Personal Trainer, and Certified Health Coach
Company you are with now: Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios
Website: WWW.JIMWHITEFIT.COM
A typical (or not so typical) day in the work-life for you: Start early and have a mid-day break which we normally use it to get a workout in. Then evening clients start coming in. I also do corporate wellness, so Monday through Thursday, I go to a company and teach a bootcamp. Also, in the evening, Tuesday and Thursday, I do a corporate bootcamp on top of their parking garage.
How did you get your current job in fitness and exercise? After becoming ACE Certified, I moved home to Virginia Beach during my husband’s deployment and researched some gyms. I had worked at gyms previously but they were same old gyms that just got people in the door then never checked up on their members or had an individualized relationship with their members. I saw Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios no only offered just personal training but nutrition services as well. I was sold. I worked as a trainer at JWFNS and while working I decided to get my Health Coach Certification to further my clients’ journeys with helping them with their behavioral change. After two years, I was promoted to the Studio Manager. Four years later, I am still here and look forward to coming to work every day.
What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? I was born with good communication skills and I have learned behavioral change theories that have helped my clients during their fitness journey.
What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? When you have an idea, go with it and don’t be afraid to try and fail.
If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? Life Experiences.
