Fitness Career Spotlight on Steve Snyder, YMCA

Fitness Career Spotlight on Steve Snyder, YMCA

I originally met Steve through social media via a mutual friend. He is an active inspiration in the fitness community and uses social media to spread his message and connect with people. Building relationships is an important part of making a difference. Steve knows how to practice what he preaches while encouraging people to enjoy fitness in the outdoors. – Sarah

What attracted you to the field of fitness and exercise? What attracted me to Health & Fitness: Love of Outdoors, I like the personal & hands-on approach & living in the moment atmosphere. And an affinity towards libertarianism & acceptance of others (in Health & Fitness there is no political litmus test and generally you must accept people for what they are).

Your Job Title: Membership Coordinator/Fundraiser/ Volunteer/ Run Club Leader

Company you are with now: I am presently employed by The YMCA of San Francisco

Facebook: www.facebook.com/stephen.snyder.3551

Twitter: @SteveSnyderSF

A typical (or not so typical) day in the work-life for you: Typical Day= Opening the doors physically and emotionally to Healthy Living

Listen to people, try and guide them (by example too) to work out & work in with others.

Ask for donations and give running members running tours of the neighborhood around San Francisco (The Presidio & Golden Gate Park)

How did you get your current job in fitness and exercise? I got the job in 2005 after having been a YMCA member and volunteer for a few years.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? Skills: not sure if I was born with it but I have had a good comprehension of spoken and written English since a young age. (comprehension of the spoken language I think goes a lot deeper than just verbal dialogue.) Patience= have always had a patient attitude towards animate objects. (I get very impatient with non-animate- couldn’t be an engineer or mechanic :-)  )

Skills: Group interactions/Meetings inside. Something I have difficulty with and am doing better at I think. I do ok with groups if I have a given task to perform. But find it difficult to speak up .

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? Fulfillment: might not be highly lucrative. Patience is important and it is important to find what you Love and how you connect with others.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? Paid by other than a paycheck- The YMCA does give me a free membership to all their gyms in San Francisco and Bay Area!  Other than that- I like to make others happy/fulfilled.
