Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you: A typical day for me is spent helping clients / members live a better quality of life via education, use of various tools and resources, and program design. People have access to lots of information and are knowledgeable (aware of the health benefits associated with (eating healthy, increasing activity, getting adequate sleep, managing stress, etc… but it’s the inability to follow through with those healthy behaviors is where I step in and help elicit change and help individuals make positive lifestyle behaviors changes. As a Wellness Coach I empower the client by capitalizing on his or her strengths and addressing barriers to change. As a Wellness Coach, I take a client centered approach, what health related changes are important to the client and how that change will positively affect their life. Change is brought on by focusing on setting small attainable goals. By addressing areas like accountability, mindfulness, measurability, and rewards / reinforcement the client has the opportunity to control the healthy changes he or she desires to make and can formulate a manageable plan to accomplish desired results.

Part 2 of my typical day: Training clients of varying fitness levels and multiple populations. I help to motivate clients by setting goals and providing feedback and accountability. I assess my client’s strengths and weaknesses and provide detailed instruction to help them improve and reach their optimal fitness level. I have experience working with special population clients and sports specific training. I have been a Certified Personal Trainer since 2003 and have worked for corporate wellness facilities, private health clubs /gyms, and now as an independent trainer. I have an extensive background in conducting health education seminars and fairs, and performing fitness testing.

The transition from having to be CPR certified to becoming a BLS Instructor just made sense. Teaching individuals the skills needed to one day possibly save a life is vital in regards to emergency preparedness. Currently I am operating via mobile service. I will travel to your place of business to teach classes at times that are convenient and will not disrupt daily operations. I have built a reputation for client satisfaction, and I am devoted to meeting and exceeding your expectations.

How did you get your current job in health and wellness? I truly feel the knowledge, skills, and abilities I have attained over the course of the past 12+years in (health education, disease prevention/ management and health promotion) helped me attain my current job. I am able to utilize the same skills and mind set in both roles as a Wellness Coach and Certified Personal Trainer.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? I am a great listener, great communicator and very detail oriented. I am constantly attending conferences and seminars to attain more knowledge and improve my skill set. I had to develop the skill of meeting people where they are. Improving one’s overall health and wellness is not a race but a life long journey.

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? First, you have to love what you do. I get pure joy from helping others live healthier happier lives. There’s nothing more rewarding than when I speak with a client or member and they tell me they no longer have to take medication, improved their cholesterol numbers, or they can walk a flight of stairs without feeling out of breath. Realizing that I played a part in helping improve their health through health education, disease management and health promotion is rewarding and humbling to me.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? Incentives such as extended vacation time, ability to spend more time with my family, and sense of accomplishment / fulfillment.
