What attracted you to the field of fitness and exercise? Initially, my athletic background and affinity for keeping in shape attracted me to the industry. I played nearly every imaginable sport throughout my early life, during my youth, adolescence, and college years. I aspired to work in an industry which would allow me to arrive at a point of self-actualization so I could enrich the lives of people through helping them achieve fitness and health goals.

Describe a typical (or not so typical) day-in-the-work-life for you: My day typically entails assessing and training personal training clients, meeting with staff, students, and faculty as well as prospective members of our facility. I also engage in research and write articles for a number of media outlets.

How did you get your current job in fitness and exercise? I credit much of my success in the field thus far, which included landing the jobs of my dreams, to finding mentors, networking, and steadfastly committing myself to becoming the best professional I can be.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? A career in the fitness industry requires an appropriate blend of technical skills and people skills. I feel that my interpersonal skills came naturally, however, I have worked hard to hone my technical craft. This is a people-first business, a point that I iterate with students, interns, and professionals just entering the field. Knowledge and skills are worthless if you cannot relate to people and build lasting relationships.

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? Focus on becoming the best professional you can be. Put people first and practice tact when navigating the waters of the industry, knowing that one slip up can ruin a reputation that took you years to build.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? The ability to park anywhere in the city without being ticketed. The Philadelphia Parking Authority is ruthless!
