Fitness Career Spotlight on Greg Bell, Owner, Focused on Fitness

Meet Greg Bell, a true inspiration to fitness. Not only is he owner of his own company, Greg also reaches out to the community and makes a difference in children’s lives through Big Brother by mentoring youth towards health and fitness. – Sarah

Sarah: What attracted you to the field of fitness and exercise? Greg Bell: I am a 50 something, son, brother, father and husband. Over the years raising a family, going to school, working a full time job and operating a small photography business things just got out of control with my overall health and weight.

As I started my journey to a healthy lifestyle I met numerous people who face some of the same challenges of raising families, juggling multiple jobs, trying to advance in their careers that they forget about taking care of themselves. I finally had that one doctor’s visit that brought me to reality of needing to take care of myself before it was too late.

So I went out and studied to get my personal training certification and started Focused on Fitness Company. I wanted to bring a fitness program that can be fun, and not intimidating for people who are trying to get back to their healthy lifestyles.

This fitness program is about getting back into shape with others who do not judge one another on how fast, how far, how high, or how much weight you can lift. This fitness program is about Accountability and Commitment and supporting those who choose to make changes.

You don’t have to do it alone!

A typical (or not so typical) day in the work-life for you? A typical day for me is getting up and getting to the gym or going for a run and then breakfast.  I then get on several social media formats and post monthly online challenges, encouragement, support, motivational material to help as many people as possible start their days. I then go over my client training schedule for the day and make sure I have all the necessary equipment for the days training sessions. I do in home personal training so I load up and head out to my clients to give them the best 30 min-60 min of their day! Once a week I also head out to go meet my little at school for one hour through the Big Brother associations. After a training session it’s time for social media follow up  with more encouragement, support, motivation before heading out to my next set of clients. After I am done training clients I then work as a mentor calling up to 25 kids who are in need of a positive role model to help them get on track, stay on track about finishing school. I then do more social media follow up by providing coaching, inspiration, motivation to support people on their healthy journey and monthly fitness challenges.  Then it’s time to work on my calendar for the next day!

How did you get your current job in fitness and exercise? I got started with Focused On Fitness because I was looking for a way to help others while also working on my own fitness journey. So during my research I found a way through ISSA International Sports Science Association where I could study from home while continuing to work another job. ISSA provided me with the resources and material to learn about health and training.  After my certification ISSA continues to provide support and resources to help you get started with your own fitness business. Through ISSA I was able to ask questions and still able to ask questions and get direct feedback to help me through many different processes of training and running a fitness business.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way? The skills I believe I was born with are great listener, and ability to motivate and inspire others. Along the way I have learned that integrity, persistence, along with some patience and the ability to communicate is crucial in business

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you? My advice is for whatever you choose to do in life, give whatever your 100% is and to surround yourself with others who have the same or greater passion to help you reach your goals!

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be? If I could receive something other than a paycheck it would be someone calling me back several years down the road to thank me for helping change their lives!
