What attracted you to the field of fitness and exercise?
I realized early on the benefits of fitness and exercise while participating in sports during my high school years. I had the privilege of training with a sports performance specialist who helped me to increase my spinal mobility and improve my strength and endurance, which improved my skills on the court. The improvement, I realized under structured coaching, would prove to be instrumental in opening many avenues through offers of athletic scholarships to colleges across the country. My studies in college and the numerous certifications I have received in the past decade have emphasized the importance of nutrition, exercise, pilates, and orthopedic rehabilitation. I believe developing a personalized lifestyle plan unique to each of my clients is instrumental in helping them achieve the best success and results as they work toward their goals.

A typical (or not so typical) day in the work-life for you:
Balanced fuel for the body is one key element for healthy living and I begin each morning enjoying a nutritious smoothie while I prepare the various foods and snacks my body will require in order to run most efficiently during the day. Plus, I must admit I am a total “Foodie” and love the comforts of eating delicious fresh organically grown fruits, vegetables, nuts, and proteins in easily prepared meals.

I usually coach between two to four clients in the mornings. During the midday, I block off time for myself. I’ll do 15-30mins of movement and mobility work in a saltwater pool. I’ll schedule a time for workshops and continuing education courses. Afternoons include more one on one client coaching. I feel it is very important to be available as a resource to guide clients through a challenge after an illness or injury; because let’s face it, life happens! That’s why I do my best to offer flexibility in order to accommodate special circumstances. I finish my day socializing with friends over dinner or finding a way to connect with loved ones. I enjoy exploring new ways of improving the mind, body, and soul connections and striving for balance in my life.

How did you get your current job in fitness and exercise?:
I began working for a private gym where I found a passion for corrective exercise and orthopedic rehabilitation. As my client base grew through word of mouth and referrals, I began to branch out and started my own company.

What skills were you born with and what skills have you learned along the way?:
I have always been tenacious, driven, curious, competitive, and caring. I have learned the importance of being a good listener, seeking every opportunity to learn, and improving my knowledge in my field, which has driven my competence and confidence in my work. I enjoy helping others while continuing to work toward achieving a healthy balance in both my professional and personal life. My path of self-actualization is what grounds me most in my journey.

What advice do you have for others wanting to be just as successful and fulfilled as you?
Find your passion and let it guide you to bring every energy, experience, and educational opportunity available into your life. Set daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals to help you stay focused and on track to building your success. Reach out to teachers and leaders and don’t hesitate to ask someone in your field who you’ve come to respect and admire if they would do you the honor of being your mentor.

If you could be paid for your job with something other than a paycheck, what would it be?
I think the feeling of gratitude is the most rewarding benefit of all. Feeling grateful for the talents and skills I have been blessed with which allows me the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of others as they seek their healthier, happier journey in life. Nothing is more fulfilling than to positively affect change in myself and in others.
