Job Description and Requirements
The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 21 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center.
The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We will be opening a new branch at Surf Ave and 29th in Coney Island, Brooklyn and are looking for experienced individuals who will display outstanding customer service and will supervise the strength and cardiovascular areas of the Healthy Lifestyles department by providing safe and appropriate fitness information and instruction to members.
â¢ Provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with the members in regards to their needs, concerns, and questions about the YMCA, its programs and mission.
â¢ Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and their relationship to the development of strength training programs.
â¢ Awareness of current fitness programs and trends.
â¢ Assist members in effectively utilizing equipment.
â¢ Test all cardio and circuit training equipment daily.
â¢ Wipe down machines, benches and yoga mats daily.
â¢ Monitor circuit training room, utility rack, stretching area, and yoga closet hourly.
â¢ Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action for Healthy Lifestyles department emergency situations.
â¢ Adhere to the YMCA of Greater New York Healthy Lifestyles Standards and Guidelines, and Y-USA Medical Advisory Recommendations.
â¢ Ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds and interests.
â¢ Actively participate in training sessions and designated meetings.
â¢ High School diploma or equivalency.
â¢ Current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications; ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA or NASM certification highly recommended.
â¢ Excellent customer service skills.
â¢ Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
